2017 Red Wine

Bordeaux Blend

Pickberry Vineyard Sonoma Mountain
Alcohol is 14%

56% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec, 5% Petite Verdot

This wine is done in a traditional Bordeaux style blend.  All of the grapes were co-fermented (went through the grape to alcohol process together as one) rather than blended afterwards.  The 2017 vintage was a tough one in California with both late frost in the season and then big wildfires just after harvest.  Pickberry is a 30 acre vineyard on the northeast slope of Sonoma Mountain near Glen Ellen, California.  The site is a rolling hillside plot on volcanic soil that changes dramatically from one block to the next resulting in several weeks of different ripening times for the fruit.  The climate is cool with warm days and cool nights which results in later ripening fruit which allows for rich deep intense flavors. Pickberry grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot and has since 1986.  Since 2012, they have been joined by a superb group of wine makers working with our fruit.

Ripe lush black fruit with hints of floral notes and cinnamon on the nose.  It lingers with cocoa and blackberry on the palate. Nice long finish.
