The full story of Cristina
Brave, showing courage. I am a Latina, from Tlaxcala. I came to the US so my girls could have a better life. I felt like I hit jackpot when I found a job with housing. I discovered it was no “winning lottery ticket” My boss and landlord, slandered me, my girls heard the rumors. In desperation, I turned to the police for help. The police, rather than condemn me, told me my rights & convinced me to leave my job. This got me evicted with 3 days’ notice. Finding another place in 3 days was an impossible task. I was afraid. Luckily, I found help. With my family secure I started asking questions about housing laws, they seemed unfair. As I learned more I realized I had something to say. A mentor group encouraged me to speak at a Town Council meeting. Housing was last on the agenda. I was nervous, could I do this? I spoke & was heard. Today, a 30 days notice is required for eviction. My courage paid off. My children have a roof over their head & a mother who wasn’t’ afraid to speak for change. Fortune favors the brave.
