Awaken an urge to do something creative. If not now… then when? As I watch fire overtake the towers after not one but 2 planes crashed into them, I look at my wife and feel that the urge to do something now She and I were supposed to be in that building. It was purely chance that our meeting was canceled just two hours prior. As we watch the horror unfold it seems we have been given a gift, one that cannot be wasted. She and I always talked about someday. Someday we will own a vineyard, someday we will live in the country in California and make wine. Someday. You are only given one life you may only have TODAY, if not now then when? It is 4am as we are listening to Peter tell his story. It is cold and foggy and still hours until the sun will be up, yet we feel more awake and alive than ever before as we pull grapes from the vine and listen. We are picking Pinot Noir grapes, harvesting with the moon cycles. The first vineyard in California to be biodynamically certified. But as we listen to Peter talk about compost, native grassland, canopy management and soil it happens, we hear the call. If not now then when? Listening to Peter instills us with the desire to follow our heart, to make something great from grapes. According to him, 20 years prior he couldn’t even keep a houseplant alive. Now he has over 80 acres of vineyards planted to sustainable, eco friendly farming. Making wine by truly listening to the land. As he tells the story of before being a “grape grower” before his “previous life’ in finance and how fate set into action his life plan, our plan starts taking shape. His fate, gave us and the wine world someone to admire someone who inspires. If not now then when? whispers the heart. Where ever life plants you, bloom with grace. Old French Proverb.
