Gratitude is a daily reminder of my astonishing life and each individual in it.

We were family from that 1st moment.  I was adopted from Korea at less than a year old.  My parents encouraged me to maintain my Korean heritage, to embrace that I was adopted.  They focused on showing me what they loved.  I grew up in Jackson WY, fishing, skiing, camping, and watching John Wayne films. I often resented that I didn’t look like them but they would joke, “you’re better looking than any of us,  count your blessings.”  I never questioned they were my family. They often tell me we are unique, because we were able to “pick” our clan.

Over the years I have maintained that same mind set of selecting “family”.  My circle has grown through friends, co-workers, and modest acts of chance.   They are my selected unit.  Thank you to all who have “picked” me.

The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard but must be felt with the heart.  Helen Keller
